Maritime Moot begins at NUALS

While interpreting the depth of constitutional rights and dimensions, it is important that the prevalant social values also deserve to be considered along with constitutional ethics and values, observed Justice A Muhammed Muhammed Mushtaque of the Kerala High court. He was inaugurating the sixth International Maritime Law Arbitration Competition at NUALS. Vice-Chancellor Dr. KC Sunny chaired the function in which the American Professor Dr Pamela S Katz of Russell Sage College, Dr. Mini S and Dr Liji Samuel spoke. Altogether more than 20 teams including 12 National Law Universities are taking part in the competition.

National Level Moot : NUALS winners

Students from National University of Advanced Legal Studies emerged winners in two moot court competitions held at two places. Pavan Belamannu, Vedantha Sai ( both 4th year students) and Vishnu Suresh (5th year student) emerged as winners at the SAM & Co.-JGLS Antitrust Moot Court Competition, 2019. Vishnu Suresh also won the Best Advocate award. The moot was based on Competition Law and was on the theme "Leniency regime and Oligopolistic markets" and was organized by the Jindal Global Law School, Haryana .

Another team comprising of Sharath Chandupatla, Anand Nandakumar (both 5th year students) and Abhishek R. (4th year student) became the runner up at the NHRC GNLU National Moot Court Competition, 2019. Anand Nandakumar also won the Best Oralist (Preliminary Rounds) Award. The moot which was based on the theme "human rights and citizenship" was organised by the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar in association with the National Human Rights Commission.

NUALS to give cash prize to International Moot  winners  
The National University of the Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi will give a cash prize of Rs.75,000 to NUALS team which came to the position in the top four in the recently held global moot court competition based on envioronment held at Florida. The Executive Council of NUALS under the chairmanship of Dr. K. C. Sunny, Vice-Chancellor has took the decision. Aisha Potty MLA, Law Secretary BG Hareendranath, Adv. KB Mohandas, Dr. GC Gopala Pillai, Adv Nagaraj Narayan etc took part in the discussions.

A team comprising of Lijin Varughese, Nikitha Susan Paulson and Samyukta Ramaswamy, students of the last year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) course here, has secured distinctions in the 23rd Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, 2019, held at the Stetson University of Law, Gulfport, Florida, U.S.A.  

Other teams which came in the top four were National Law School, Bangalore, Singapore National University and The University of Philippines. NUALS has already initiated a series of innovative and novel academic programmes in pursuit of its strive for excellence as a preferred global destination for legal studies.

Maritime Moot : Symbiosis winners 

Symbiosis Law School, Pune emerged Winners of the Fifth NUALS International Maritime Law Arbitration Competition held at NUALS Campus on April 6,7 and 8th 2018. Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala emerged as the Runners Up. The Moot Court Competition was opened by Vice Chancellor Dr. Rose Varghese and the awards were distributed by the judging panel members. 

The NUALS Maritime Moot Court Competition is an initiative spearheaded by the University to create an arena for student engagement with the challenging and enthralling field of Maritime Law. After four successful editions, NUALS had decided to promote its flagship event to the international level inviting participation from foreign teams. After the preliminary memorial elimination round, 16 teams from across the country and abroad participated in the oral rounds, judged by experts from various parts of the country and abroad. 

The Finals were judged by a 5-Member Panel comprising of V.Bala, Partner, Rajah & Tann, Singapore, Amitava Majumdar, Managing Partner, Bose & Mitra & Co, Harikrishna, CEO, Nimble Legal, Dubai, V.B Harinarayanan, Partner, United Maritime Law Chambers, Joy Thattil, Managing Partner, Callidus Legal.

The Winners walked away with Adv. S Venkitaswaran Memorial Prize and a cash award of Rs.40,000. The Runners up team were presented with the trophy and a cash award of Rs.25,000. The Best Researcher, Best Memorial and Best Speaker were also awarded to Amaya Damodaran of JSS, Mysuru, Christ University, Bangalore and Likith H Honkankare of RGNUL Patiala respectively.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS

The NUALS team comprising of Tia Jose, Abhijit A and G. Arjun won the First Runner-Up Trophy at the 2nd Symbiosis International Criminal Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition, 2017, held at Symbiosis Law School, Pune from March 18 to March 20, 2017. They also won the Best Memorial Award.

The NUALS team consisting of Ms. Mary Kavita Dominic, Meera Elizabeth Emmanuel and Aparna Asokan secured the Best Memorial Award in the 7th Jamia Milia Moot Court Competition, New Delhi held from  March 17 to 19, 2017.  

The NUALS team comprising of Navya Benny, Arsha Mary Margret and Ritika Ranka   from 1st year have emerged as the runners-up in the VITSOL National Moot Court Competition on International Law held from 7 - 9 April, 2017 at VIT, Chennai. Further, the team has won the Second Best Memorial Award and Navya Benny has also been awarded the Best Speaker prize. 

The NUALS team comprising of Shashwat Bhaskar,  Utkarsh Jingan   and Yudhvir Dalal   won the Best Memorial in the 6th RGNUL National Moot Court Competition, 2017 at Patiala  from March 31, 2017 to April 2, 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Navya Benny, Arsha Mary Margret and Ritika Ranka from 1st year has emerged as the Runners-Up in the VITSOL National Moot Court Competition on International Law at VIT, Chennai from 7 - 9 April, 2017.The team has won the Second Best Memorial Award.

The NUALS team consisting of Neha Vijay, Akhil Kumar and WafakhateejaRehman (IVth Semester Students) was adjudged as Runners Up in the first Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida National Moot Court Competition, held from 24 to 26th of March 2017. The team also won the Best Memorial Award.

The NUALS team comprising of Palada Dharma Teja, ChitranshVijayvergia and AnandNandakumar won the 'Best Memorial' Award at the 7th Justice P. N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights organized by BharatiVidyapeeth Deemed University New Law College Puneon 25th and 26th of March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Ancy Varghese, AnjanaA. and Gopika H.H. was adjudged  Winners of the 3rd RBUSL Moot Court Competition,Punjab held on 25th& 26th of March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Vedanth Sai, ApoorvaRamkumar and Pavan Bhat of First Year won the Best Memorial Award at 1st Surana&Surana& KLE Law College National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, held from 24th to 26th March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of A. K. Neslin, Fathima V. N. and Maria Paul (IVth  Semester Students) won the Runners Up Trophy for the 4th International Law Moot Court Competition conducted by the Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi held from 18th-19th of March , 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Govind G. Nair, Atul Narayan and SwethaJanakiraman emerged as the Winners of the 7th National Moot Court Competition, Checkmate-2017, organized by Army Institute of Law, Mohali, Punjab on 3rd to 5th of March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of M.V. Abhinaya, NiranjanSudhir and Naveena Varghese won the Runners Up at the II Techno-Legal National Moot Court Competition conducted by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun from 17th to 19th March, 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of VaidehiSoni, Christy C. Bose and Anagha Prasad won the Best Memorial Award in the 7th Geeta Institute of Law National Moot Court Competition, held at Panipat on 4th and 5th March 2017 .

The NUALS team comprising SamyuktaRamaswamy, ShilpaSangameswar and KarthikViswanath was adjudged the Winners in the 5th SCC Online- RMLNLU International Media Law Moot Court Competition, held from  3rd to 5th of March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Girish Deepak, Amitav Singh, Akhil Mahesh and Ankita Rajesh was placed 2nd at the National Rounds of Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot 2017. Represented India at the International Rounds of the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot,2017 at Frankfurt am Main, Germany March 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of AfreenFarhana, Salma Jennath and Thareeq Anwar of   won the Runners Up Trophy and Best Memorial Prize in the 7th M. K. Nambyar Memorial Moot Court Competition held from 10th to 12th of March 2017.

TheNUALS team comprising of Nikhil Gupta,PulkitKhare andSmruthiPrahaladan have secured the Best Memorial Awardand the 1st Runners-Up position in the 7th Institute of Law, Nirma University (ILNU) National Moot Court Competition held from 10th to 12th of February 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of FathimaFidha, Maria Nedumpara and Malavika M. V. won the Best Memorial Award at the National Moot Court Competition conducted by Amity University, Mumbai on 2nd and 3rd of  February, 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Akhil Mahesh, Girish Deepak, Amitav Singh, and Ankita Rajesh finished Second at the National Rounds of the Frankfurt Investment ArbitrationMoot  held in Bombay on 29th of January 2017.

The NUALS team comprising of Reshma Suresh, Harima Hariharan and RassalJanardhanan have won the Runners Up Prize in the 5th Dr AT Markose Memorial Moot Court Competition  organised by School of Legal Studies, CUSAT.

The NUALS team comprising of Muna Basheer, Mathew Varghese and Sara Fathima  won the "Spirit of Surana Award" at the 15th Surana and Surana Corporate and Tax Law Moot Court Competition held from 17th to 19th of February 2017.
